Can I request a NIF card?

Finanças, the Portuguese tax authority, is no longer issuing NIF cards. The PDF document you received will serve as proof of your NIF. You can ignore the expiration date on the document.

Even though there is no official NIF card issued by the Portuguese Tax Authority, you can download and print a card via the Portal. This card is completely optional, but it is a way to make it easier for people to have their NIF number handy without having to carry their full NIF document or memorize the number.

If you think this card could be useful for you, here's how you can download it:

STEP 1:

Select the "NIF" tab, enter your NIF number, your password, and click "Autenticar".

STEP 2:

On the top left, under FATURAS, click "CONSUMIDOR".

STEP 3:

You'll be directed to a different page. Scroll all the way down and select "Obter Cartão E-Fatura" - A PDF preview will automatically open on a different page.

STEP 4:

Download the PDF (example below), print it, and cut the card.
